Event Update - 29 March

Mooloolaba Triathlon – Standard Distance Triathlon and Aquabike Update – 12pm Saturday

The Mooloolaba Triathlon team would like to provide an update on conditions ahead of Sunday’s Standard Distance Triathlon and Aquabike events.

The event team is doing everything possible to allow for a swim on Sunday, however want to make athletes aware that if conditions do not improve that may not be possible.

As of 12pm on Saturday, the current wind conditions, and continued presence of blue bottle jellyfish in and around the swim course, mean that a swim would not be able to take place.

Conditions are expected to change in the coming hours, and then improve further overnight, and as a result a final decision will be made on Sunday morning.

If conditions do not improve all athletes will instead complete a duathlon starting from the swim start area in the same order as the current swim waves, as was done in today’s Sprint Triathlon.

Athletes will run approximately 200m along the beach to the swim exit and into transition to collect their bikes and head out onto the bike course, with the bike and run portions of the event to continue as originally planned.

A final decision will be communicated to athletes at 5.30am on Sunday morning.
